Rachel came to Pivotal Point one year ago at the age of 17. Rachel had been on her own since the age of 15, living with friends couch surfing and living in her car. She speaks of her life before Pivotal Point as one where she was abused, afraid, and hopeless, knowing that there was more to life but just focusing on survival. When I met Rachel all you saw was her beautiful smile, but under that smile was anxiety, depression and fear. In her words, because of PPTH she is free from the things in her life that brought her down. Rachel now has hope and she feels safe. In May Rachel will graduate from high school with excellent grades. She has also earned multiple certificates from Hillyard vocational school and plans to attend college in the fall studying pre-med.
Rachel graduated from Pivotal Point last summer and continues to live with us in our graduate housing. We continue to support her as she has matured into a confident, intelligent young woman. It is inspiring to see what Rachel has achieved, knowing what she has been through.
Our mission is to expand our ability to reach out to the growing number of young adults that are homeless in our community. This story and many more are examples of how Mosaic and this community can make a difference one life or one family at a time.
